11/12/21 Friday Updates

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,

Reminders for next week’s Conferences:  While this is an Elementary School minimum day week, the reminders are applicable for our entire school population:  infant-elementary.

Parent-Teacher Conferences have become a routine in our elementary lives, but this year is like no other. Conferences bring up a lot of anxiety for all parties involved. While they are critical as a formal process of discussing progress, it is also about strengthening our home/school connection.

Conferences are as much about how we make families feel as what we share as educators. Our goal is focused on: Being thoughtful, warm, confident, and great listeners.  Doing so will enhance both our and your families’ experiences. We are prepared to listen because conferences are just that, a conference, an exchange of ideas and a continuation of a partnership.

As I have reminded our staff, conferences are about relationships, and I look forward to providing you and your family with a promise to collaborate so that our home/school partnership is stronger than ever here at Alcott.

One of our key priorities at Alcott is a promise to provide a safe and welcome school culture for all students, staff, and community.  We will be implementing a class meeting structure in all our TK-5 grade classrooms to ensure we are validating our students while teaching them how to effectively use the powerful “I statement”.

Bullying of any sort is not the Alcott Way and it is our responsibility (as the safe adults on campus) to ensure your children have the best conditions possible for learning.  If your child is expressing sadness or not feeling happy at school, notify your teacher immediately so we can address the situation.

We believe in the Bucket Concept and having students feeling sad and/or unwelcome at Alcott is not aligned to our focus of having the best school for ALL students.

We are ONE at Alcott:  UBUNTU.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Principal Lewis
